Samsung is trying to conquer every aspect of the phone market; they have some of the best mid-range and cheap phones. The Samsung J7 is meant to conquer the mid-range market; it is the latest Samsung Phone to enter the market, and it packs a punch. It costs Rs. 17,900 which is around 290 US dollars.

Design and Display
Samsung has a reputation for designing phones that make us drool, the Samsung Galaxy S8 comes to mind but how does the J7 Max fair in this area? It sports an all metallic body and that as far as design goes, do not expect anything unique, it, however, looks good.
The volume buttons are on the left part of the phone while the power button is on the right just below the speaker grills. In this time of curvy edges and backon phones, Samsung decided to go with square cornersmaking the phone look like an ordinary phone. It is as though the designers were not motivated to design the phone.
At the front, things are kept simple too, a Samsung trademark large button which also serves as a fingerprint scanner is at the bottom. At the back, you have the 13MP main camera surrounded by LED-based Smart Glow and by the side, you have the single-tone LED flash. The Samsung J7 Max comes in two colours – gold and black.
The display on the 5.5-inch is great for a budget phone; it gives a crisp and sharp display even though it did not come with Samsung popular AMOLED display. So your gaming and movie experience should be great. The display is not protected with a Gorilla Glass so you might want to invest in a strong tempered glass in case of a fall.
Hardware and Performance
The J7 comes with muchhardware; itis powered by a combo of an Octa-Core MediaTek Helio P20 and a 4GB RAM that should handle anything you throw at it. The MediaTek which clocks at 1.6GHz is not the fastest processor out there, but it should handle your high graphics game.
There is ample of storage with 32GBstorage, and if you wish to expand with a memory card, you can expand up to 256GB. Fortunately, you do not have to choose between dual SIM and an external memory as the J7 supports the use of both simultaneously.
Software
Samsung furnished the J7 Max with the latest Android 7.1.1 under the ever beautiful and functional Samsung Experience skin; formerly known as TouchWiz. Unique features that you get with the Samsung skin include Dual Messenger applications, Samsung Secure Folders and Samsung Pay Mini- a toned version of the Samsung Pay.
The major difference between the Samsung Pay Mini and the Samsung Pay is that the mini version does not allow you to add cards – credit and debit. The Pay Mini still permits the use of UPI (Unified Payments Interface) to transfer money without entering bank account details and mobile wallets to make payment instantly.

Camera and battery
The J7 Max has some goodies in the camera department especially for those of us that like selfie and social media. The front camera is a 13- Megapixel snapper with an aperture of f/1.9,and it has a single tone flash to eliminate dark selfies. The main camera has the same megapixel with an aperture of f/1.7,and it can shoot FHD videos.
The J7 Max camera is a social camera – it allows for instant editing and sharing of pictures to your favorite social media accounts. It also has livefilters and livestickers feature. It is simply a fun camera.
The battery on the J7 Max does not look impressive on paper. It carries a non-removable 3300mAh, that is not great for a phone with a 5.7-inch display, but the battery life is surprisinglygreat thanks to Samsung’s battery optimisation. You should go a full day on the phone with light usage. Unfortunately, the J7 Max does not support either Quick Charge or Flash Charge.

Cons:
· Unimpressive design
· There are more efficient processors in the market than the Helio P20 that would have bettered the phone’s performance.
· Does not support Quick Charge, takes 2-3 hours to charge from 0-100.
Overview
Samsung is known for going out their way to create great phones with perfect design and performances but that was not exhibited with the J7 Max and being a midrange device is no excuse. Samsung needs to put more effort in the midrange market if it wants togain it fully or the likes of Oppo, Xiaomi and Meizu will continue to rule the market.
The J7 Max is a great midrange phone, you should have a good user experience with it, but it is an example of Samsung at its minimum effort.
